More For What It’s Worth -
I consider myself lucky to have been exposed to all the great inspiring music of the 1960s and 1970s. People like Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, The Beatles, Van Morrison, Linda Ronstadt, The Carpenters, Carole King, Carly Simon, Heart, The Who, Buffalo Springfield, Bob Dylan, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, Bob Dillon, The Eagles, Cat Stevens, Neil Young, Jackson Brown, The Rolling Stones, and many many others. I don’t want to make this list too long here. . . The amazing songwriters and musicians of that time were my early influences and still are. All of them. The sonics they (and others I apologize for not mentioning, there are so many!
were able to pull through, were and ARE stunning feats of consciousness. All of the music that had “it” pointed me in the right direction early on and were literally a life boat. When you listen to really good music it sinks in and even more importantly, sort of, creates a space for you to live that is strong and hopeful, and that has a forward motion. Real present music changes you. I think it feeds you too. It’s beautiful.
Grace Gravity is a great name for what I think the music is and life. This is a duality most of the time, navigating the in- between space is key. Each song on the CD is a path of sorts through the gravity to the grace of knowing, of trusting, of feeling the truth, of fully being. Surfing the space. I heard it in an interview Brian did with Father Charles Moore, where he said about this time we are in now, “We are becoming enlightened by the Grace Gravity of the Sun.”
Brian Hardin covers a lot of bases. He plays drums and/or percussion, keyboards, and a bit of native American flute. He also produced the new CD. He adds a playfulness to the sometimes heaviness of some of the lyrics.
For example 2 songs on our up-coming release actually started out as children’s songs. Brian had written this really fun music. Meanwhile in the weeks surrounding that, I had written a couple of political songs. When we put the two together we got Faceless Face of Big Business and Freedom of Press/Wake Up Sleepy Head. A great combination of really truthful hitting lyrics reflecting the frustration of the tricky times we are in. The fun music balances the gravity and the grace of the situation.
Brian’s produced many gold and platinum records and has a fantastic ear for the heart of the matter.
